ZetaType Version 0.4.1 out - Manual included

Version 0.4.1 of ZetaType is now out.

This has a number of bugs fixed (too boring to list).  But the most interesting feature is a setup and usage guide for ZetaType.

This is a very simple addition but this is in response to the extremely high level of feedback from users who were having trouble installing ZetaType.

The problem users were having was due to the complex approach needed to set up a keyboard on Android.  There are a number of poorly documented and non-intuitive actions that a user must go through after installing a keyboard  (or to use its technical name an "Input Method Engine") before it can be used.  These steps are there for reasons of safety and security but they are complex nonetheless.

Over 50% of people who downloaded Zeta had trouble working out what to do.  So this guide will help explain in detail the steps needed to install ZetaType.  The guide also gives users brief instructions on how to use ZetaType.  We hope this is going to help new users  gett up to speed quickly with Zeta.

Other then this we have made some of the structural changes needed to support larger screen sizes (for example on the Verizon Motorola Droid).  We are not yet ready to announce support for Droid but we are working to get this to you soon.

  1. ZetaType is awesome! Much faster to type than any of the other Android keyboards I've tried. One issue that I think you should address is the limited symbol input. If I need to type a "&" or "€" sign, there's currently no way to do it. Something as simple as having a gesture that pops up a list where you can select from the more obscure symbols would be fine. Other than that, ZT is my favorite touch keyboard, by far. Keep up the great work!

  2. Hi mv. First off thanks for the feedback. We always love to hear that users like what we are doing!

As to the extra symbols that is definitely something that we have on our list. We are currently planning to enable extra symbols by long pressing the right key (currently only the left and middle keys accept slide actions).

We would love to know your thoughts about this.

  3. Market warned me "this application can save keystrokes including passwords etc"
Is that the case? Can it be avoided?
    Ty,
Looking forward to using the Droid beta though I'm enjoying the current version already.

  4. That is the case for all Keyboards Applications on Android. They will all give the same warning because by definition they are capable of seeing every key press.

HOWEVER, we are not storing any data other then configuration information (compact mode, vibration on/off, full screen mode, etc) and data on error rates which we use for Error reduction logic. In future we will keep track of new words to add to a Text prediction dictionary. Again this is no more then any standard keyboard will store.
